Our pets are not merely animals. For us, they are more than that. They are important part of our lives and the loveliest members of our household. However, it is not possible to take them along everywhere, every time. We all often have to perform numerous human chores like going to the job and earning. It is better to have some pleasant place, called their “home”, for our furry friends so that they can fully enjoy and do not miss us when we are not able to be often with them. So question arises: Where can one find such place? A wire dog crate is actually a fantastic answer.
Advantages of Wire Crate:
- There is a plastic pan at its bottom which slides in and out. Thus, it is very easy to keep it clean.
- Most of wire crates are with a slid-out tray which is underneath them. It is there to catch any accidents, & the wire allows unpleasant odors to escape as well.
- It allows much greater airflow as compared to all crate styles which is particularly good in hotter climates. Such type of crate is well-suited for those dogs who are with longer coats or if one lives in a southern climate. As the crate is totally open, there is plenty of air movement, which lets our puppy or dog to stay cool.
- It allows the dog the greatest and very clear visibility which is nice for those that require to feel a part of things yet & and know what is happening around them. This reduces feelings of isolation and separation.
- Many models fold flat for portability.
- Some of models have divider as well. They are best for those who are extreme dogs’ lovers and have more than one dog.

Disadvantages of Wire Crate:
- For few dogs, rather than comforting by letting them being able to look around & see their family, the visibility causes whining, stress & feelings of separation as they cannot join in the fun. This leads to whining & barking. Talking about its solution, you can cover a wire crate. But, that is going to cause much annoyance not only to your dog but you as well.
- It doesn’t provide fair shelter in colder climates.
- It may be collapsible for portability.
- It creates lots of noise when dogs move around a lot.
- It is generally not airline approved. If one plans to travel by plane with his or her dog, one will have to invest in some second plastic crate to make the trip possible.
- It is not for determined & very intelligent dogs. Using their wit, they can escape from it very easily.
- Depending on the size, when collapsed, it is bulky, awkward & very heavy to move around.
So while you are buying a wire dog crate for your little “baby”, think about your needs and those of your dog as well to make sure you buy the one that is perfectly right for it.
